Alexandra House Chiller Retrofit Honored with
2026 AEE Regional Energy Project of the Year Award |

HONG KONG, Sept. 22, 2026 — Trane Hong Kong, a business of global climate innovator Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), announced that the chiller plant retrofit project at Alexandra House, in which it participated as a technology partner, has received the 2026 “Energy Project of the Year” Award for the Asia Pacific Rim Region from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Presented at the AEE Regional Awards Ceremony, as part of the AEE World Energy Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida, U.S., on September 15, the award recognizes the role of innovative heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) retrofits in transforming existing commercial properties into high-performance, low-carbon assets. |

Alexandra House is a flagship Grade-A commercial landmark in Central, Hong Kong. Following a strategic infrastructure upgrade, including a chiller plant retrofit, the building achieved a 25% reduction in total energy consumption in 2025, while significantly cutting carbon emissions, compared with the 2019 baseline.
To support the retrofit, Trane was engaged to supply five high-efficiency Trane® CenTraVac® water-cooled centrifugal chillers using hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant R514A, which has an ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) of less than 2. Leveraging Trane’s TRACE® 700 simulation software, the team strategically adopted a hybrid configuration of variable-speed-drive (VSD) and constant-speed-drive (CSD) chillers to optimize efficiency across varying load conditions. The system’s cooling capacity also increased from 2,900 to 3,200 refrigeration tons (RT) to meet future operational needs and potentially rising cooling demand.

The AEE award adds to a growing list of accolades for the Alexandra House retrofit. Earlier this year, the project also won the 2026 ASHRAE Regional XIII Technology Award in the Commercial Buildings – EBCx (Existing Building Commissioning) category. Together, these awards reflect the project’s success in setting a benchmark for energy efficiency in Hong Kong's built environment.
